The scene that blew Juno Temple away in Ted Lasso
Temple was moved by an article looking at this moment between Keeley and Roy.
"Ted Lasso" bills itself as a comedy, and it certainly has its share of funny moments, but there are plenty of funny shows out there. What sets the Jason Sudeikis-starring sports-but-more-than-that show apart is the massive heart of him and his winning cast of characters. And while "Ted Lasso" may be packed with memorable personalities, rarely does this killer combination of standout characterization and poignant emotion strike harder than in the pairing of Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) and Keeley Jones (Juno Temple).
The Roy-Keeley Ship began as a kind of "they will or they won't," opposites attract like a typical sitcom thing, but quickly matured into a moving portrait of two people becoming a couple. healthy romantic. The perfect illustration of that dynamic came near the end of Season 1, when Roy's injury during Richmond's final game of the season leads to the end of his career...and a poignant locker room moment with Keeley.
Apparently, we weren't the only ones who had our heartstrings tugged at by this scene. Temple also felt the power of Roy's visceral need to hold on in a rare moment of vulnerability for the veteran footballer. She described this discovery in an exclusive interview with Cinematicos.
Temple was moved by an article looking at this moment between Keeley and Roy.
According to Temple, she is often unmoved by the scenes she has worked on when she sees them after the fact. This scene, however, was different.
"Even though I'm a part of it, I was actually very moved when I saw it, which is quite rare," she said. “I mean, it talks about your life being ripped from your chest at that moment. And a little creature that comes in and says, 'Please let me in,' and Roy says, 'No, but please,' until he collapses. about her. I remember when we showed it, it was a really intimate moment, and we care a lot about that pacing because it's a big moment for Roy."
Temple's appreciation for the moment was only bolstered by an article examining her sensitivity to and subversion of typical male-female romantic dynamics. “Brett sent me a really amazing article. It was a really insightful and beautiful article about relationships and about male and female dynamics in a relationship, and about letting people in and the vulnerability of it," she said. “I was very proud to be a part of what could have inspired this article, because it felt like it was an essay that was really eye-opening about relationships. And the fact that that scene triggered that thought process, I thought, was really great."
